The skills and drills you are about to learn and teach are TOTALLY DIFFERENT from the other modules.

Communicate to the families that everyone will benefit from this module. You may want to offer for non-students to take the module for $100 or so. Either way, at least invite them to watch the 8 classes.

You can invite the students to come to class in their regular clothes provided they are similar to what they would wear to the gym or to school.

No jewelry. Be careful of nails scratching.

Your presentation of this is CRITICAL. Students must work at school zone speed unless you say otherwise.

This is a different world from martial arts, and one of the key success factors is your ability to ignite the energy in the class.

You want to play the fine line between creating adrenaline in the class and scaring them.

Much of that has to do with your word patter, volume, and tone.
Run the self-defense classes with a shorter, lighter warm-up of jumping jacks, shadow boxing, push-ups, and sit-ups.

While they are doing the exercises, discuss any or all of the following:

1. Review what they have learned so far in terms of soft skills, not physical skills. TPM, Soft Targets, How Bad Guys Choose a Victim etc.

2. Discuss a local crime and analyze it for them and with their input. This is important as their analysis of the crime will change through the module.

3. Preview what is going to happen in this class.

After-School Martial Arts Program

We are a true Martial Arts School, not a daycare, and as such we are not in the supervision and care business but rather, the talent and skill business. We pick up from most Elementary and one Middle Schools and work with kids 5-12.

We own our own Transportation Company (TASMA, LLC) and only use our dedicated professional drivers who have DOT and CDL licenses with background checks.

This program has been perfected by Jim King since 1991. We typically provide transportation from 20 schools in the area to our facility on Sunshine Lane in Altamonte Springs.

We are in the Talent and Skill Business Not Baby Sitting or Care

This is a week-to-week program provided as a constructive alternative to daycare, extended days at school, and babysitting or latch-key. We have no contracts. There is no extra charge for in-service days when the children are out of school all day. You may drop off as early as 7:30 am and pick up as late as 6:15 pm.

Pack a lunch on those days and we will have two classes that day (10:00a-11:00a & 4:00p-5:00p). If you have prepaid for a week and your child becomes ill and only attends one or two days, we will credit the unused portion of that week to the next week. If you do not attend for a week, you will not be charged.

We are in the talent and skill business not the supervision and care business.

The only reason to use our program is to learn the Martial Arts and its tenets that we teach: Exercise, Discipline, Respect, Manners, Self Defense, and Self-esteem through earning Belt Ranks found nowhere else. This stuff really does carry over into their school work and home.

Recognition Based on Earned Achievement

We give out special awards for children who get on the honor roll at school and who have no check marks for bad behavior. We give out yet another award for straight "A"s take their picture and honor them on our Honor Roll Wall.

We give out still another award for performing at least 7 chores each day at home for 30 days of which the parent will be given a chart to follow and fill out. All these awards will always be given in front of the whole student body with applause.

We are not a commercial school and we will not put a rank belt on anyone who hasn't earned it. We will not put a Shodan (Full Black Belt) on anyone under 16 years of age.

We have some children who have worked really hard over 4 or 5 years to earn a Junior Black Belt. They will stay at this rank until they are at least 16 and proficient in all their Karate.

We have a certified trained staff of 8 instructors on the main Dojo floor at one time teaching 8 different levels of class simultaneously in four main rooms. Each room is over 1,100 sq. ft. divided by PVC vertical curtains with a special rubber floor for safety.

Daily class from 4pm - 5pm

We have physical games in each room before class. We are a Licensed Martial Arts School and not a daycare or a tutor. Children may eat a snack before class. Class time is from 4pm until 5pm each day.

You may pick up your child from 5pm until 6:15pm on the way home from work. They will need to come prepared each day to learn and must bring their uniform for class.

We are an open access facility.

7 Reasons Students Get Bored and Drop Out
7 Reasons Students Get Bored and Drop Out
$0.00 1 Sections 6 Lessons

If martial arts is so good for people, why aren’t more people involved? What can you do to keep them involved longer? After working with tens of thousands of schools, we’ve come up with what we feel is a good list of the most common reasons students get bored and drop out of martial arts schools.

This list is by no means complete since students may have many reasons, including personal situations, that lead them to drop out.

Our goal here is to try to draw attention to the common problem areas that instructors can control.
