Dynamic Warm-Up Exercises for Little Dragons
Warm-ups are a crucial part of any martial arts class, especially for young children. They help prepare the body for more intense physical activity and reduce the risk of injury. Here are some fun and effective warm-up exercises for your Little Dragons martial arts class:
Jog in Place Start with a simple jog in place to get the heart rate up and muscles warm.
Cheetah Sprint When you say “cheetah,” students must jog fast in place for three seconds. This adds an element of fun and excitement.
Swim Have students move their arms like they are swimming when you say “swim.” This helps with arm mobility and coordination.
Tree Climb When you say “tree,” students should reach high and pretend they are climbing a tree. This stretches the body and engages the imagination.
Stretching Routine
- Toe Touch: Have students sit down with their legs stretched in front. They should reach for their toes, keeping their knees straight, and count out loud to five, getting closer to their toes with each number.
- Middle Stretch: With legs apart, students should reach forward as far as they can, counting to five.
- Side Stretches: Students should reach towards each leg, one at a time, counting to five.
Butterfly Stretch Have students sit with the soles of their feet touching each other (butterfly position). They should move their knees up and down like butterfly wings to ease the tension from previous stretches.
Repeat Stretches Repeat the stretching routine (steps 5 and 6) one more time to ensure the muscles are well-prepared for the class.
Ready for Drills With these warm-ups, your Little Dragons will be physically prepared and eager to start their martial arts drills. These exercises are designed to be fun and engaging, ensuring that children enjoy every part of their martial arts journey.
