Position Title: Martial Arts Instructor

Reports To: Chief Instructor or School Manager

Position Purpose: To advance the mission and goals of the school through effective martial arts instruction.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Instruction:

    • Guide students and prospective students through curriculum levels, from introductory to Black Belt.
    • Exhibit enthusiasm and provide positive reinforcement during classes.
  • Prospecting:

    • Generate new leads by distributing guest passes, soliciting referrals, and using approved prospecting techniques.
    • Record and organize prospect information using prospect cards.
  • Admissions Assistance:

    • Support the Admissions Director in following up with prospects via phone and mail to increase enrollment.
    • Aid in upgrading students to higher membership levels and convert trial memberships to Black Belt Club Memberships.
    • Conduct progress checks for prospective Black Belt Club members.
  • Motivation and Attendance:

    • Keep students motivated and encourage regular class attendance and home practice.
    • Build personal relationships with students by knowing them by name.
  • Belt Examinations:

    • Understand and apply criteria for student belt examinations.
    • Complete necessary paperwork and meet instructing goals on a daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis.
  • Professional Development:

    • Prepare for and participate in staff meetings.
    • Master effective martial arts instruction concepts and continuously improve teaching techniques through training and studying MATA resources.
  • Instructional Methods:

    • Master-approved instructional methods.
    • Regularly evaluate and refine instruction strategies to enhance performance metrics such as attendance, retention, and Black Belt candidates.
  • Knowledge Maintenance:

    • Stay informed about the school’s history, philosophy, and policies.
    • Understand local and national industry trends, competitor strategies, and instructional techniques.
  • Personal Fitness and Appearance:

    • Maintain high levels of personal physical fitness, positive attitude, and professional appearance.
    • Progress towards the next rank in Martial Arts.
  • School Maintenance:

    • Assist in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the school, including classrooms and locker rooms.
  • Team Influence:

    • Inspire and motivate other staff members to achieve their best performance.
  • Additional Duties:

    • Perform other related duties and assignments as required.

Qualifications:

  • At least 16 years of age.
  • Outgoing personality with effective communication and inspirational abilities.
  • Must be a Black Belt with previous teaching experience.
  • Strong interest in self-improvement and ongoing education.
  • Ability to maintain high enthusiasm and a strong desire to help others achieve their goals.
  • Commitment to learning more about Martial Arts, communication, and teaching techniques.
  • Dedication to the principles of Black Belt Excellence and patience in student progress, regardless of age, gender, or athletic ability.
