Engaging Kids Before Class: Strategies for Success
Five minutes before a kid’s class, it's crucial to engage with your students to gauge their mental state. Are they excited or tired? This insight helps you tailor your warm-up to meet their needs.
Interact with them to shift their focus and uplift their spirits. Ask questions like, “How do you feel about your next exam?” or “How did your test go?” This shows genuine interest and opens opportunities for one-on-one feedback, addressing any concerns they might have about their techniques.
Two minutes before class begins, organize the students by height, with shorter ones at the front. Have them sit down briefly to ensure they stay in line. Use this time to collect attendance cards and discuss the upcoming class activities. This not only helps with logistics but also builds excitement.
Avoid talking down to your students, no matter their age. With kids, use appropriate language but keep it fun. They appreciate humor, but ensure it’s respectful and doesn’t become silly or disruptive.
Remember, class should be enjoyable but not overly funny. A bit of humor can ease tension, but it shouldn’t overshadow the seriousness of the training.
