Objective:
Enhance students' ability to clearly and accurately describe martial arts techniques through verbal explanation alone.
Instructions:
-
Group Formation:
- Divide your class into four equal groups, and have each group stand in a separate corner of the room.
- Ensure students are lined up in a way that allows you to easily move past each group.
-
Set-Up:
- Select a set of moves that all students are familiar with.
-
Exercise Procedure:
- Explain that each student will take turns verbally explaining the chosen techniques as if they are describing them to a blind person who is unfamiliar with martial arts.
- Emphasize that no physical movement is allowed during the explanation—students must use only their words to convey the technique accurately.
-
Execution:
- Begin with the first student in each group. They must explain the technique clearly and correctly.
- If a student fails to explain the technique properly or accurately, they must sit down.
- Continue with the next student in line until all have had a chance to explain.
-
Winning Criteria:
- The team with the most students still standing at the end of the exercise wins.
Benefits:
- Clarity in Communication: Helps students develop the ability to convey complex techniques clearly through verbal description.
- Deepens Understanding: Encourages students to think critically about the mechanics of techniques.
- Team Building: Promotes teamwork and group interaction as students work together to maintain the highest number of participants.
Tips:
- Choose techniques that are familiar to all students to ensure they can focus on the explanation rather than struggling with technique details.
- Provide feedback after each explanation to help students refine their descriptions and improve their understanding.
This exercise will not only improve students’ ability to communicate techniques but also deepen their own understanding of martial arts concepts.
