Key MATA Standards for Martial Arts School Owners
The Martial Arts Teachers’ Association (MATA) has established standards of professional conduct and disciplinary procedures to guide certified instructors, certification candidates, and the public. Understanding these standards is crucial for martial arts school owners to ensure their school operates professionally and ethically.
Conditions for Certification Revocation or Disciplinary Action
MATA may take appropriate action, including revocation of certification, in the following circumstances:
-
Ineligibility for Certification: If a member or prospective member is found to be ineligible for MATA certification.
-
Dishonesty During Certification: If dishonesty is discovered during the certification exam.
-
Unauthorized Possession: Unauthorized possession or use of certification exams, answer sheets, score reports, or other confidential MATA documents.
-
Fraudulent Statements: Making fraudulent statements or misrepresentations to the public or MATA for obtaining or retaining certification.
-
Impairment: Any mental, emotional, or physical condition that impairs professional competency or behavior, including substance abuse.
-
Negligence or Misconduct: Negligence or intentional misconduct, such as releasing confidential information, disregarding safety, or abuse of others.
-
Criminal Convictions: Conviction of felonies or misdemeanors that are relevant to the health and safety of the public or the integrity of martial arts instruction.
-
Failure to Meet Certification Requirements: Failure to meet the requirements for certification or recertification.
MATA Disciplinary Process
MATA employs a three-tiered disciplinary process:
-
Probable Cause Review: Initial review to determine if there is probable cause for a hearing.
-
Hearing: If probable cause is found, a hearing will be conducted to examine the alleged violations.
-
Appeal: If found guilty, the individual has the right to appeal to ensure fair and unbiased examination of the case.
Note for Martial Arts School Owners
As an MATA certification candidate or certified professional, it is your responsibility to familiarize yourself with and comply with MATA’s Professional Practices and Disciplinary Procedures. This adherence helps maintain the integrity and reputation of your martial arts school.
