Tip #1: Build Rapport with Campers and Parents
Priority number one is to establish a strong connection with both campers and their parents. All staff should make an effort to shake hands, make eye contact, and learn the names of campers and their parents. The goal is to make campers feel comfortable and ensure their parents are confident that they’ve made the right choice in enrolling their children in our camp.

Tip #2: Focus on the Positive
Avoid negative statements and concentrate on positive reinforcement. Be patient and kind. While there will be times when discipline is necessary, it should be enforced with a smile and a positive attitude, ensuring a supportive and encouraging environment.

Tip #3: Ensure Visibility and Safety
Staff should avoid being alone with campers in offices, locker rooms, or any other area where they are out of the direct sight of other campers or coaches. This ensures the safety of the campers and protects staff from any potential misunderstandings.

Tip #4: Reward Good Behavior
Coaches should have stickers, prizes, and snacks ready to distribute for good behavior throughout the day. The aim is to catch campers "doing things right" and reward them for positive actions, fostering a supportive and encouraging atmosphere.

Tip #5: Show Team Unity
All coaches and helpers should line up to greet parents and campers both at the beginning of each day and when the campers depart. This demonstrates team unity and showcases a level of interaction and involvement that goes above and beyond the norm, reinforcing a positive camp experience.

Tip #6: Be a Role Model
Have fun and exemplify excellent behavior, language, and enthusiasm. Coaches should be great role models, setting a positive example for campers to follow.
