Understanding Mental States and Warm-Up Plans

Five minutes before a kid’s class, it’s crucial to interact with the students to gauge their mental state. Are they excited or tired? Understanding this will help tailor the warm-up to suit their energy levels.

Engaging Conversations

Help less excited students by engaging them in conversation to take their mind off the day's challenges. Ask them if there’s anything you can help with before class or how they feel about their next exam. Another great question is, “How did your test go?” This shows interest and care while providing an opportunity for one-on-one interaction to review techniques they may be concerned about.

Lining Up and Final Preparations

Two minutes before class, start lining up the students with the shorter ones at the front. Have them sit down for the last minute to ensure they stay in line. Use this time to collect attendance cards and discuss the upcoming class, building anticipation and excitement.

Communication Style and Fun

Always talk to students with respect, regardless of age. Adjust your vocabulary for younger kids but have fun with them. They want to enjoy their time with you, so feel free to joke a bit, as long as it doesn’t lead to silliness. Remember, class should be fun but not funny. A little fun can serve as comic relief, but it should not be the main theme, nor should laughter come at another’s expense.
